When everything goes wrong in life; you lose hope, and feel like nothing is going to get right from that point in future. You pull your head into the shell, and lose motivation, and think that somehow things should get back inline. Your disappointment and feeling of helplessness is understandable and might be right in certain conditions.

While your reaction to the situation is quite natural, you must remember that you hold the key to get back, rub the dust off, and get things right. In such times, you do need your attention and care. Hence, here are four things that you must do for yourself when things have gone wayward.


1. Accept that things have gone wrong

One of the main reason behind the mental struggle is the constant thought, ‘How could this happen to me?’. In the response, you try to suppress the negative thoughts and try to forget everything that is happening; which in turn makes the matter worse and aggravates the mental stress.

You have to accept at first the very condition and feelings associated with it. Things have gone wrong, and the mental reaction to it will be natural. You have to show patience and understand that the surge of these constant thoughts will remain for some time, and it is necessary to take them as part and parcel of life. Try to close your eyes, let your thoughts flow, and understand the message behind them. They might signal you towards the points that are hurting you most, or steps that you should take to control the damage.

Always remember that acceptance is the first step towards healing the wounds of the tough times.


2. Give yourself some time

Once you have accepted your situation and mental condition, try to give yourself some time. Do things that make you feel good and happy. Time is a healer, and you should let it pass to let your mental state calm down, and let logic take the driving seat. It’s very important to take time and not do anything under impulse. Otherwise, it can make matters worse.

Also, take this opportunity to introspect, and think about your faults and wrongdoings that lead to things going wrong; (it’s very important to do if you are going through harsh times in your relationships). But remember, do not get into self-criticism or self-blame in the process. Try to look at everything from a neutral perspective, and make sure to take a step towards improvement.

But do not hurry, and let everything happen at a natural pace. Everybody is not the same, and it might take time for some people to feel fresh or get into the mindset of doing things right.


3. Talk with your loved ones

When things are going wrong, many people try to keep it to themself or choose to suffer in silence. But, please avoid doing it, because sharing your worries, and seeking help from loved ones can bring positive outcomes which you never thought.

Sharing things lighten the burden of mind and assure you that you are not alone in odd times. Also, your mind is not in the right place to make a decision or think better, and in such situation you loved can give you the solution, which can solve the problem.

4. Do one task at a time to correct things 

After accepting the current situation, giving time to yourself, and taking help from your loved ones; you do feel the hope of doing things right or things getting normal in life. But, don’t hurry, try to take small steps a day, do things which are in your control, and make the situation better.

Don’t expect that everything will be right in a day or feel disappointed if you face failure. Try to learn from them, and keep doing your best, without any expectation. You will do change the situation, and things will get better for sure.


Every human is bound to face odd times, but remember to understand yourself, and share worries with others, and give yourself some time. You can’t control everything in life, but that doesn’t mean you lose hope and feel that nothing good will happen with you. Have faith, this will pass too.
