Blog banner of How to get rid of Negative thoughts post

Our mind helps us to become what we are, yet it holds the power to bring us down and generate negativity that can make us feel everything dark. Negative thoughts do impact peace of mind and physical health; if they are able to create stress and worry. Thus, we always wonder, ‘How to get rid of these negative thoughts?’.

But remember, negative thoughts are an inseparable part of our mind, and in reality, we can’t become 100% negative thoughts proof for the rest of our life. The problem arises when we don’t understand our negative thought cycle, and negative thinking becomes a habit and dominates every decision that we take in life. (Basically, the imbalance in acknowledgement of positive and negative thoughts.)

Hence, we like to share five tips that you must know to get rid of that chronic negative thoughts process; and understand/utilize it better to become a more aware individual.

1. Embrace (not suppress) your negative thoughts

Over the period of evolution, negative thought processes developed in humans’ minds, because that’s what helped the pre-civilization humans to survive in the wild. Thus, negative thoughts are more like a messenger than trouble for a human being.

Every negative thought that arises in your mind has a message for you; like fear of failing in exams is trying to highlight your level of preparation, and pushing you to study.

The whole problem arises when you try to stop these negative thoughts, and do not understand the reason behind them, that’s when the stress develops, and peace of mind diminishes.

Hence, you must let the thoughts in your mind flow, accept them, understand what they are trying to say, and then make a decision with a calm approach. But remember, you must take time to make a decision after acknowledging these thoughts, and not do anything under the impulse.

2. Watch your daily routine

As said earlier, the problem arises with negativity becoming a habit, and you look at everything in life under the influence of negative thoughts. Because of this, it is vital for you to study your daily routine, and identify activities that stimulate negativity, like, watching heated debates on tv, involving in social media banters, negative conversations etc.

Once identified, you must try to replace these activities with positive and fun-filled activities like reading good books, watching comedy shows, having an amazing conversation with your dear ones. These stimulate positivity in you and your thought process. So work on your daily routine, and try to take it towards the more uplifting side.

3. Do one ‘kind act’ a day

Kindness has the potential to spread positivity in an exponential manner. A kind act can make you feel proud and positive for the rest of the day. But, doing a kind act doesn’t mean you have to spend a huge sum of money. Even a small act; which makes another person’s life easy can really accomplish the goal.

There are opportunities throughout the day, like helping a stranger, sharing the daily chores with a partner or parents, surprising your dear one with their favourite things, and many more.

Doing a kind act a day has a double benefit. As you try to be kind, you see a change in the way you see the world and people around you; this eliminates the perception of negativity and the person whom you help also feels hopeful and positive towards society.

4. Leisure is the source of positivity

To achieve success in professional life, sometimes you forget to do what you like. But, don’t shy away from leisure activities, it’s something that keeps you fresh and counters many negative thoughts. Even a scientific study done by psychology expert like Zawadski, agree that leisure activities help in lowering negative mood, stress, and heart rate.

So be it anything: hiking, swimming, reading or playing video or outdoor games; don’t seize doing them, as they are one of the key things that keep you happy and positive.

5. Write a ‘good qualities’ journal

There do come times in life when negativity completely takes over, and you do feel hopeless, but that’s not the reality, and there is a tool that can keep your mental condition in a balanced state. You must try to file a journal in which you write qualities that you like about yourself; try to write whenever you do something good.

Over time, you will have a written record of the capabilities and qualities that you possess. Hence, whenever you feel low, you can read them to overcome it. Also, this gives you solid confidence and may help you encounter thoughts like ‘You can’t do!’, when you are about to start something new in life.

In the end, remember that negative thoughts do have a place in your mind, and you must acknowledge them to make improvements; but don’t get under their influence, and let them become a habit or a final word of your mind.
